SpLinter Sisters head off to Centerparcs!

At the beginning of June, nine of us from the SpLinter Sisters went on an exciting 4-day break to Whinfell Forest Centerparcs in Penrith.

We had lots of fun planning the holiday beforehand, some by zoom and some in person at the Gallery Youth Project. We had loads of things to plan with a plethora of exciting activities to choose from as well as more mundane things to organise like food.

We went in two cars, both of which stopped in Hexham for a MacDonalds lunch, before continuing on to the holiday centre.

On the first evening we went to the luxurious Cabane, where we were able to relax over drinks, before heading into the pool and testing out the different slides. We then returned to our two chalets for a joint barbecue prepared by our support volunteers, Julia and Fiona.

The next day we split up and went in mini groups to the various activities which had been prebooked for us. These included cup cake decorating, geocaching, electric boating and a spa session, after which we all reconvened for a game of ten pin bowling, which Suzanne won! We had another delicious meal back at the chalets cooked by us.

The following day, we had even more fun – some of us went off to paint pots, following which we all got together for a game of adventure golf, ending the morning with a tasty lunch at the Pancake House. Those who couldn’t stay for the whole trip then returned home with Fiona, whilst the rest of us relaxed at various locations around the center. In the evening we stayed at the chalet and watched telly before heading to bed.

On the last morning, we had a bit more time to explore the center after packing our bags and heading back home.

We were really lucky with the weather – blue skies and lots of sun for the whole time we were there.

Special thanks go to Fiona and Julia for making this holiday such a memorable occasion for us all. Not only was it lots of fun but it really helped us to gain independence, whilst learning to live with each other, and practising our social skills! We really hope we can do it again soon.
