SpLinter Group heads off to the Fringe Festival

Carlton Hill

At the beginning of August, SpLinter Group members came together in Edinburgh to see a variety of performances at the Fringe Festival.

We had a fun time at the festival where we all got involved in a lot of different spectacles and also enjoyed the cultural highlights of Edinburgh. A couple of SpLinter members had already spent two-days camping at Morton Hall outside of the city center. There were also a few SpLinter members who would also be joining them as day trippers who wanted to come along for the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of the Fringe Festival.

The day commenced with a brisk walk up Carlton Hill for one SpLinter member whilst the rest of group took a break before recommencing their jam-packed schedule! A few members decided they wanted to watch and support Mike Simmons (a stand-up comedian) at the Liquid Rooms on to the Royal Mile.

Meanwhile the other SpLinter members used this as an opportunity to browse the souvenir shops and also explore other highlights of the city. Before rejoining the group for their final show at the festival before returning back to Northumberland. The last performance was an improv theatrical show that involved storylines around the topics which included raw meat and zombies! There was a lot of laughter and participation from the audience.

We had a wonderful time altogether exploring Edinburgh, and getting involved in many different shows at the Fringe Festival. Since SpLinterzine wrote this post there has been another trip up to Edinburgh with other SpLinter members as part of this years Summer Programme. Hopefully we can do this again next year when the Fringe Festival returns back to Edinburgh :).

Special thanks go to Julia and Gemma for making this trip such a memorable occasion. Not only was it lots of fun but it really helped us to gain independence, whilst learning to live with each other, and practising our social skills! We really hope we can do it again soon.
