Activities
Wide range of activities – something for everyone
At SpLinter Group our members have a diverse range of interests, which means we’re never short of ideas for activities. Different members take a lead on sharing their fantastic skills and helping to run our programme.
Whilst the emphasis is on having fun, our activities programme has been designed to help us develop a range of new skills, that help us to achieve our ultimate goal of living independently. A walk in the park might not seem much of a challenge to some people, but if we catch public transport to get there, or share a lift with another member, then our confidence grows without even realising it.
We have several regular groups that are especially popular with our members. The Gaming Group has weekly get togethers on Sundays online, where we enjoy games and quizzes, often desined by members themselves.
The monthly get-together is in person, at our base in Cramlington and sometimes in other friendly places.
There are two groups for young women, SpLinter Sisters North and SpLinter Sisters South. They meet up usually every couple of weeks, the north group in or around Alnwick, and the south group meets up in Blyth. Both groups enjoy meeting at local cafes or restaurants, visiting events and shows together and also having people visiting who can offer advice and help about issues that matter to them.
On top of our weekly programme of activities we also organise one-off events like multi-sport competitions, creative sessions, spa outings, and bowling nights. Our visit to the Autism-friendly tour of the Newcastle United stadium in August was a real winner with our football enthusiasts! The SpLinter Sisters even made it to Center Parcs in the summer!
